A retired police officer apprehended a suspect who ran into his home following a hit-and-run crash Tuesday afternoon.
Ron Heter, who retired from Florida Police Department five years ago, says a man identified as Corey Valle ran toward him and knocked him to the floor in an attempt to hide following the crash. That's when Heter grabbed the suspect and slapped his old handcuffs on him.
Heter then dialed 911. His former colleagues later arrived on the scene and arrested Valle.
"I give kudos to all the police that came here," Heter says. "They were just great. They responded very quickly. "
Police say Valle admitted he had been driving for miles while high on drugs.
