Former Middletown Mayor Joe DeStefano was voted back into office by a landslide Tuesday.
DeStefano, a Democrat, defeated incumbent Mayor Marlinda Duncanson and Republican challenger James Kitson for the seat with 64 percent of the vote.
On Wednesday, Mayor-elect DeStefano waved to supporters and put up 'Thank You' signs outside his East Main Street headquarters.
"Middletown residents spoke, and they spoke very loud and very clearly," DeStefano says.
With just a few weeks left until his inauguration, DeStefano says he has already requested a copy of the city's budget and plans to work closely with the current administration to ensure a smooth transition.
