Four
homes were damaged last week when a tree fell in the Walden
Woods development in Dobbs Ferry, displacing two families.
Roseann
and Dennis Hunt were having breakfast in their dining room when they suddenly
heard an “avalanche-type noise” before a tree smashed into their home -
damaging their second and third floors and roof.
According
to Roseann Hunt, the tree fell from a neighbor's property and struck
three other homes – leaving them with roof damage.
The
Hunts fear that their insurance may not cover all the damage and believe
that the neighbor should be held liable.
However,
the owner of a tree-cutting company who was working on an unrelated project in
the neighborhood told News 12 that once a fallen tree crosses the property
line, it becomes the responsibility of the homeowner and is considered an
"act of God."
The
property owners where the tree fell from have stated that they have turned the
matter over to their insurance company and have no further comment.
