Kyle Smith was fatally shot on March 7 - and his mother, Charmaine Little, wants to find out why.

The 23-year-old moved to Brooklyn in 2020 to pursue his dreams of becoming an artist.

Little says she is grateful that her son overcame gun violence in Baltimore growing up but cannot believe it was in New York City where the senseless act struck her family.

At around 6 p.m. on March 7, police responded to a call at 132 Herkimer St. Inside, they found Smith with multiple gunshot wounds and unconscious. He died that night.

Little describes her son as a kind and quiet young man of many hobbies. She says he stayed out of trouble and was respectful.

She and her husband are now on a mission to piece together what happened. Little says she will cross state lines as often as she needs to crack this case.
