The family of an Afghanistan interpreter has safely arrived in Arizona. It was a Rockland native and Air Force veteran who helped them escape.
Michael Tritt says he met Gholam, the interpreter, while serving overseas as a contractor. When the U.S. pulled out of Afghanistan, Tritt says he scrambled to save his friend with help from a man who is part of Operation Northstar, an organization dedicated to evacuating Afghans.
The man, who identifies himself as Duke, says that the process to saving Afghans has hit stops along the way.
After 10 failed attempts, the family was flown to Qatar and then Fort Dix in New Jersey. They finally arrived in Arizona Tuesday night.
Operation Northstar is still working to help other Afghans flee the country. To donate,
