Fast Finds Thrift Store in Pleasantville opens its doors this summer, inviting the community to buy second-hand items while supporting people with different abilities.
The shop started as a pop-up thrift two years ago, via weekly visits to the Hitchcock Presbyterian Church in Scarsdale. Last October, Pleasantville Presbyterian Church offered a room for the store to stay in, along with a vocational room so students and adults in the program could work on building important skills.
Other programs such as the Nicholas Center, Select Connects, and Ossining High School's special education program and have since partnered with them, widening their reach.
Soon, they will become a subsidiary under the "Break The Hold" Foundation, a mental health program based in Pleasantville.
Susanne Wilson, special education teacher at Pleasantville High and coordinator of this program, thanked the community around her for how successful this store has been. She said they wouldn't be here without their integral connections and support.
All proceeds go back into the store and to other charities in the area, such as "The Midnight Run" or "Sharing Shelf" in Portchester.
