More than a dozen unmarked law enforcement vehicles, armored trucks and heavily armed agents filled a Town of Poughkeepsie neighborhood Wednesday morning as the FBI carried out what it later confirmed was court-authorized law enforcement activity on Malmros Terrace.
A nearby resident shared photos of the scene with News 12 and said they were awakened around 6 a.m. by loudspeaker announcements identifying the FBI and ordering people inside a home to come out with their hands up. The resident also said they saw children leave the home with their hands raised during the operation.
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office confirmed deputies assisted with the operation.
In a statement to News 12, an FBI spokesperson confirmed the court-authorized law enforcement activity but declined to provide any additional details, referring further questions to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.
News 12 has reached out to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for more information and is awaiting a response.
So far, officials have not said why agents were there or who they were looking for.
