The FDNY is looking to diversify its ranks to better reflect the Bronx and city communities it serves. City officials announced Monday that the FDNY plans to diversify recruitment by relaxing application criteria. This comes as the department is being investigated for its hiring practices. Under the new requirements, Bronx residents can apply if they graduated from high school and have held a full-time job for at least six months or served in the military with honorable discharge. Those without work or military experience can apply if they have 15 college credits. Previously, the requirement was 30 college credits.
