A federal eviction moratorium has been extended another 60 days thanks in part to Hudson Valley Congressman Mondaire Jones.
Jones and other congressional progressives staged a sleep in on the steps of the U.S. Capitol.
They demanded the Biden administration extend the federal eviction moratorium until Oct. 3.
Rep. Jones advocates are now calling on state officials to speed up the disbursement of billions of dollars in federal funds allocated for rental assistance.
Experts say the financial fallout from COVID-19 is making it tougher for millions of families to stay in their homes.
According to Jones, just over $46 billion still has not been allocated.
With the current moratorium providing just a temporary reprieve, housing advocates know the fight is far from over.
