From popular movie and TV productions like "The Whale" and "Pretty Little Liars" to community workforce training, there’s a lot going on behind the scenes at Choice Films at Umbra Stages.
“Below the Line Boot Camp trains people who are underserved and don’t feel like the door is open for them," said Summer Crockett-Moore, managing partner of Choice Films.
The program is 2 1/2 weeks of classroom and on-set paid training for Newburgh residents, thanks to a city-funded workforce development grant.
“The film industry is not a closed door," said Tony Glazer, managing partner with Choice Films. “It’s not this mystical thing.”
The company is headquartered in the City of Newburgh. Parts of “The Whale” were filmed there. Brendan Fraser won an Academy Award for best actor in that multimillion-dollar motion picture.
The company’s managing partners say the crews behind the camera are just as important and with an influx of films coming to the Hudson Valley – ‘they’re hiring.’
“Helping people in the community to be part of a crew base and workforce really only helps the industry grow ... so we are all about that," said Glazer.
