A fire at a Wappingers Falls apartment complex on Friday night left an estimated 60 and 75 people displaced.
Authorities say the fire broke out at the Brookside Garden Apartments on Colonial Drive.
Investigators say there were two separate fires hours apart that affected 16 apartments.
The Hudson Valley chapter of the American Red Cross told News 12 that it has opened a shelter at Wappingers Junior High School for the displaced families. It is expected to stay open for at least 48 hours.
Other displaced residents were staying with other family members.
The apartments were considered unsafe, and workers boarded up the doors to prevent residents from returning.
Assistant Superintendent Junior Perez added that the boarded-up apartments will also deter any potential looters from entering the buildings.
There were no fatalities or major injuries reported in the fires.
Investigators were still trying to determine a cause of the fires as of Saturday night.
