The search continues for what caused a fire inside a multifamily home in Yonkers that left a dozen firefighters injured.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Downing Street. Nearly 20 people are now displaced.

“My son goes to school right here. I've seen the people who live here and they're always really friendly. It's sad, not having a home for the holidays," says Yonkers resident Loretta Ngoran.

It took about 50 firefighters to get the fire tamed - 12 suffered minor injuries from slip-and-falls. All the residents made it out safely.

The damage to the building is extensive.

"Especially with the weather right now and the holidays coming now, to have something like this happen is very sad," says Yonkers resident Julio Sanabria.

The Red Cross is helping the residents.

Investigators say the fire is not suspicious in nature and are still searching for a cause.
