Firefighters are pushing back on Sleepy Hollow's local law that bans “thin blue line” and “red line” flags from municipal vehicles.

Sleepy Hollow Mayor Ken Wray says the American flag should not be altered as it stands.

Firefighters say the blue line and red line flags are meant to represent first responders who pay the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

But the Sleepy Hollow Mayor Ken Wray says, the controversy the flags bring is not welcome in the village.

"And that stands for blue lives matter, that stands for back the blue and that stands for a highly political position that's usually one of support the police no matter what and if you don't support them completely, then you don't support them at all," he says.

The mayor says he hopes to work with firefighters on another symbol that is not controversial to use in honor of fallen heroes.
