Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at an apartment building in Mount Vernon on Saturday night.
Residents say the fire on West Sidney and West Lincoln avenues started at around 6 p.m.
Police asked people to stay away from the area.
Firefighters were focusing on the top of the four-story building which is comprised of a convenience store on the ground floor and apartments on the upper levels.
Residents from the building, as well as residents from neighboring homes, were evacuated as a precaution.
An EMS worker told News 12 that no one had been taken to the hospital as of Saturday night.
The Red Cross was on the scene to assist those who were displaced.
The cause of the fire and the number of people displaced were not immediately clear.
