Police say the recent attack on a 16-year-old boy in Walden was not gang related, even though the suspects were charged with first-degree gang assault. According to police, 19-year-old Jaquan Williams was traveling through Walden with four other suspects, when they came across two people walking along Orange Avenue. Police say both parties exchanged words and Williams allegedly beat the victim in the head with a tire iron. The five suspects, who police say fled the scene, were later caught. Police say the suspects were charged with first-degree gang assault even though they are not members of a gang. By law, an incident is defined as gang assault when two or more people are involved and want to cause serious harm to someone else. In addition to assault, Williams was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a weapon. The suspects? identities are not being released because of their age. They are all being held on $25,000 bail.
