One of Brooklyn’s most recognizable names is now in the fight of his life.
“Benny The Butcher”, whose real name is Benny Caruso, was diagnosed with Glioblastomas the day after his son’s graduation.
"Even today, everybody stops by all the time, 'How's benny? How's Benny? How's Benny?', said Foodtown Bay Ridge meat manager Jerry Quinn. “They all want to know how benny is. They're heartbroken, so many people are heartbroken."
Anyone who calls Bay Ridge home and frequents Foodtown knows Caruso. He’s been serving in the market for 36 years.
"We brought him to the hospital because they said he had a possible stroke but then we found out while we were there, after multiple tests, that it turned out to be a tumor,” Quinn added.
The tumor in Caruso’s brain -- which has impaired his speech and is inoperable -- has forced him to undergo chemotherapy.
"He gets very emotional because it's so beautiful the amount of love, support, and prayers that everyone is just rooting for my dad and that means so much to me,” said Carolina Ferrante, Caruso’s daughter.
