The official fall sports season in the Bronx kicked off Sunday with the Fordham women's soccer team taking the field against rival Iona College.
The Lady Rams jumped out to a 1-0 lead while playing in the soaking rain at Jack Coffey Field. Fordham held onto the lead at the half. The game was then delayed 72 minutes due to rain and Coach Ness Selmani was determined to not let the officials cancel the game. Once play resumed, Fordham clamped down with Allie Cacciotti making key saves.
Fordham went on to shut out Iona 1-0.
