The case of Chad Volpe, a former Mount Hope town supervisor accused of sexually abusing a child, is reportedly returning to county court for resentencing after a state appellate court vacated his prison sentence.
Volpe had previously been sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison for the sexual abuse of a child two years ago. He admitted to authorities that he had threatened a person with physical injury if they did not engage in sexual conduct.
At his upcoming resentencing, Volpe is expected to receive 5 years of probation. Efforts to reach his attorney for comment have been unsuccessful thus far.
In response to the court's decision, the Orange County District Attorney's Office stated, "Nothing in the court's decision affected the validity of the conviction. We respect and will abide by the court's decision regarding the judicial error as to the sentence."
