Former New York City Mayor Eric Adams was granted Albanian citizenship, according to a special presidential decree.
The decree was issued by Albanian President Bajram Begaj and is dated April 10.
Adams posted on X saying, "Honored to accept honorary Albanian citizenship, not just as a personal distinction, but as a reflection of the deep and lasting bond between New York City and the Albanian people."
The decision grants citizenship through a presidential order, rather than the usual naturalization process.
