A former Peekskill police officer will spend seven years in prison for sexually abusing a woman.
Michael Agovino, was sentenced at Westchester County Courthouse.
The 36-year-old from Orangetown pleaded guilty back in March to burglary, sexual abuse and stalking.
Agovino unlawfully entered the victim's home multiple times while on duty in 2019 and 2020 and sexually abused her.
"This man took something away from her 100% by forcing her out of her home, by making her feel ashamed of her body and self-conscious, but she took some of that back by going through with this prosecution," says Westchester District Attorney Miriam Rocah.
Agovino was also sentenced to 15 years' post-release supervision and will have to register as a sex offender.
His defense attorney said Agovino takes full responsibility for his actions.
