Former President Bill Clinton was in Brooklyn on Wednesday to help break ground on an $18 million renovation and expansion project for Anchor House, a residential treatment program for people recovering from drug addiction.

“I believe in the God of second chances, and I’ve needed a lot of them,” Clinton said. “So this is a place of second chances.”

Anchor House provides residential treatment and support services for people battling substance use disorders.

The expansion project will include a brand-new residential building for men and renovations to the current facility, located on Bergen Street in Crown Heights.

The groundbreaking comes as overdose deaths in New York are declining. State officials say overdose deaths statewide are down 43% since 2022.

The Clinton Foundation’s Overdose Response Network has been supporting the fight against the overdose crisis nationwide.

“As long as there’s one person dying unnecessarily, keep going,” Clinton said. “Everybody counts, and everybody deserves a chance.”

Construction is expected to take several years. Once completed, the expanded facility will be able to house 70 men.
