A former Wappingers Central School District educator is the winner of the United Way of Dutchess-Orange 2021 Kindness Award.
Cyril "Skip" Rottkamp worked for the district as a teacher and coach for three decades.
He gives back to the community by serving with the Fishkill Rotary Club, the Interact Club and by volunteering with Meals on Wheels in Wappingers.
Rottkamp also dresses up as Santa to deliver food and gifts.
Still, he says his proudest role yet is being grandpa.
“I want my grandkids to know that giving is the important thing,” he says.
Rottkamp was chosen over 29 other candidates.
