One of Mount Vernon's own has been nominated for an Oscar.

Clarence Maclin is an actor in the movie "Sing Sing."

The A-24 film is based on a theater program that was founded at the Ossining prison back in 1996.

It stars formerly incarcerated participants of the program, just like Maclin, who served more than 17 years in the prison for robbery.

His work in the film has earned him several award nominations.

He's a contender for the "Best Adapted Screenplay" award at the Oscars in March.

"Man, it means the world to be nominated. It means that the message that we set forth is being appreciated," Maclin said.

Maclin is one of the first alums of the theater program to be nominated for an Oscar.

It's an accolade that he said is indicative of his journey from Mount Vernon to the movie screen.
