Four people were killed Friday in an accident on the northbound side of the New York State Thruway in Tuxedo.
Police say two families from Queens were riding in a minivan, which became disabled in the right lane of the Thruway around 7 a.m. A driver of a tractor-trailer tried to avoid the van but crashed into it. The northbound Thruway was closed for at least three hours.
According to police, the driver of the minivan and her two sons, age 10 and 16 were pronounced dead at the scene. A 14-year-old girl died later at Westchester Medical Center of her injuries. The brother of the deceased girl is in the hospital in critical condition. Their mother is at Good Samaritan Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say the driver of the tractor-trailer, 52-year-old David Tichko, was treated for a shoulder injury. He is not being ticketed at this time.
On Wednesday, a 3-year-old Staten Island girl was killed when the car she was riding in was involved in a two-vehicle crash about four miles south of the scene. And, four people were killed in a crash last month just yards from Friday?s accident.
