Four pedestrians are recovering in the hospital after an SUV hit a parked car, jumped the sidewalk, and careened into a Peekskill building on Restaurant Row at North Division and Park Street Thursday.
The driver of the SUV is also in the hospital.
The terrifying event left a parking sign bent at a 90-degree angle, glass all over the ground and a bent windowpane at the vacant storefront of the building.
There were many people out and about on the streets Thursday night.
Conor Greene, a member of the nonprofit Peekskill Walks, says she was at the site of the accident Friday morning.
Peekskill Walks are advocating for safer streets because they say it's been a serious problem in the city.
"We've been long concerned about the amount of dangerous driving on our streets, the amount of reckless driving...just a routine amount of speeding and running of stop lights that happens all the time," Greene said.
All the victims are recovering at Westchester Medical Center. There is no word yet on how bad all the injuries are.
News 12 will continue to provide updates.
