Westchester Gentle Dentistry, in collaboration with the Port Chester Carver Center, hosted its first Free Dental Day on Friday.
Treatment options for the event included dental exams, restorative care, extractions and more.
The Carver Center's Case Management Program selected around 20 people who best qualified for the service, including Elvia Guamarrigra, who received a full cleaning.
"I would love to see this more in the community. Many of us in the community don't have access to health care or the resources to even pay out of pocket. This is a benefit to our community," said Guamarrigra.
Each service additionally included a complimentary oral cancer mouth screening. April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month.
"We're doing this because we would like to give back to the community. We believe that everyone deserves to have access to quality dental care," said Dr. Feryal Alidadi, with Westchester Gentle Dentistry.
The day was made possible with the help of a donation of more than $1,000 in dental supplies from Henry Schein.
"To be able to connect with a dentist establishment and be able to connect our clients as we assess their need. We are looking forward—and hopefully we can do this year after year," said Daniel Bonnet, the chief program officer with the Port Chester Carver Center.
Both organizations hope the event will inspire other dentists to host their own free dental day.
