The Costco in Port Chester is once again open for business after being shut down by a hazmat incident Monday.
Fire department officials say it was just after 2 p.m. when crews rushed to the store on Westchester Avenue for reports of smoke coming from the giant building.
They say the first units to arrive quickly determined it was not smoke from a fire but rather a large Freon leak coming from the second floor.
Crews went in to do a search and make sure everyone had evacuated.
Fire departments from surrounding areas as well as Westchester County's hazmat team and the county Health Department were called in to help with the chemical leak.
The area was shut down for a time while crews worked the scene.
Port Chester village officials told News 12 the cause may be a functional failure of part of the building's cooling system.
The store reopened today at 11 a.m. after village fire code officials gave the green light, followed by state health officials.
Shoppers are just happy their store has reopened. "I do Fourth of July, so I was like how am I going to get all my foods ready?" says Guilia Byrnes , of Port Chester.
