Friends and family gave a final farewell Friday at Stewart Airport in New Windsor for Hudson Valley Honor Flight founder Steve Nicoli, who died from COVID-19.
It was the same hangar where his special flights for veterans depart.
The Army veteran was 42 years old and newly engaged when he died Sunday.
Nicoli, who was unvaccinated, was well known for his tireless work with veterans and organized special flights, in their honor, from New Windsor to D.C.
Nicoli leaves behind his fiancée, his son and a stepson.
His family says his life and legacy will live on in the hearts of those he knew.
Nicoli was laid to rest at the Orange County Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.
