Hundreds gathered this morning at St. Patrick's Cathedral to say their final goodbyes to Detective Jason Rivera.
Many came out to pay their respects at Rivera's wake Thursday, and even more attended the funeral.
Rivera was just 22 years old when he was killed in a Harlem shooting along with his partner Officer Wilbert Mora. Both were shot and killed when responding to a 911 call at an apartment just one block away from the 32nd Precinct where they both worked.
Those who knew Rivers say he always had a smile on his face and wanted to make a difference. During the funeral ceremony, Rivera was promoted posthumously to detective.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced flags on state buildings will be flown at half staff Saturday until Wednesday evening after Officer Mora's funeral, in honor of both of these officers.
