Family, friends and coworkers gathered Friday at Bethel Baptist Church to remember Jamil B. Wilson, the New York State Thruway Authority worker killed while working along I-287 in White Plains on Oct. 19.
Jamil B. Wilson, 47, was operating a mowing tractor when he was struck by a vehicle and later died at Westchester Medical Center.
Loved ones remembered Wilson as a dedicated father, friend and worker.
Officials, including Frank Hoare, executive director of the Thruway Authority, stressed the importance of slowing down and paying attention behind the wheel.
"This was a needless, senseless act that did not need to happen if the driver had been paying attention," he said.
The crash remains under investigation. New York State Police said Friday that there were no new updates.
Gov. Kathy Hochul directed flags to fly at half-staff, and the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge will be lit orange in Wilson's honor.
