The search for a missing 96-year-old Bronx woman finally came to a happy ending, but now there are many unanswered questions about her future.
According to police, Jessie Thompson was discovered at Penn Station Sunday after walking out of the Jewish Home Lifecare on West Kingsbridge Road back on May 4. She suffers from dementia and was not wearing a special alarm to prevent some patients from wandering.
The nursing home says Thompson is currently in Bellevue Hospital undergoing observation. It released a statement after she was found saying in part, "We are assessing the situation, and in conjunction with hospital staff, will make a determination about what is best for her future."
An administrator with the home also reports that Thompson said repeatedly that she didn't want to live in the facility and had threatened to walk out. However, she doesn't have any family in the area to live with.
Several viewers had reported sightings of the elderly woman during the two-week search. She was caught on camera getting onto an MTA bus in Harlem, and was possibly spotted in a downtown Manhattan store and at the Port Authority.
