Gabby Petito Foundation donates $100,000 to National Domestic Violence Hotline

The tragic story of Gabby Petito captivated the hearts of millions of Americans. On Thursday, the story of the Blue Point native's death is doing more than ever to prevent other deaths from happening.
As the one-year anniversary of Gabby Petito‘s disappearance approaches, The Gabby Petito Foundation just donated $100,000 to the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
The organization was thrust into the spotlight just days after Petito's death was ruled a homicide. The violence hotline was flooded with calls from people seeking support on how to deal with an abusive relationship.
A local organization here on Long Island fighting to help those who are domestic violence victims spoke up about this donation, specifically about how domestic violence is an issue that affects people of all ages and why it’s vital for any victim to know there is help out there.
Keith Scott, of the Family and Children’s Association, says “It’s really important that young people hear this message, that funding is available for support and also that we get the much-needed support in Nassau County because Nassau County has the lowest number of domestic violence beds per capita in the state, which is an issue considering how populated we are and how much goes on here. “
Scott also says that he has seen a rise in encounters with young people sharing that they feel unsure or unsafe about their particular situations, which is why he says funding for all organizations and especially ones on Long Island are so necessary.
