Construction on the new Gateway Center at Bronx Terminal Market is moving along quickly, but it?s still not slated to open for more than a year.
Developers hope the web of steel and concrete will soon become a draw for shoppers near River Avenue. The new center includes two main buildings that will be home to big stores like Home Depot, Staples, Target and BJ?s Wholesale Club.
Traffic and parking are proving to be a concern for people who live and work nearby. According to plans, a garage at the site will hold 2,500 cars and planners say roads around the site will be improved as well.
The Gateway Center is slated to be open by the fall of 2009.
