The newborn goslings that hatched in the Central Plaza Shopping Center parking lot are settling in to their new home.
The tradition of caring for the young geese began three years ago after IHOP franchise owner Elena Ozerovsky-Cochrane noticed the geese nesting across from the restaurant located at 2620 Central Park Ave. in Yonkers.
Because of the bustling area, Ozerovsky-Cochrane and her staff took it upon themselves to contact The Center for Wildlife Rescue, Research and Conservation, and to watch over the birds.

"They decided to nest in the middle of a parking lot with so many cars, so many people, and of course, fear was like biggest," said Elena Ozerovsky-Cochrane. "Like, 'Oh my god, what if something happens to them?'"
Canada geese, for the most part, will choose one spot to nest and will return annually.
"The geese ancestors probably nested there many, many years ago, but there wasn't a fence blocking their route to the water, but now there is, so there is no way for them to get out," said Loraine Izzo, who is the president of The Center for Wildlife.
This year, seven goslings hatched. One of the goslings is being brought back to the rehab center for further evaluation.
If all goes well, it should be reunited with its family on Tuesday.
