The vehicle that police say was used by the suspects who
stole a car with a child inside in Eastchester on Thursday has been recovered
in New Jersey.
Police say the owner of a BMW left their car running with a
key inside, as well as a child in a car seat, in the Green Knolls section of
town just after 8 a.m.
While the car owner was escorting another child to a nearby
bus stop, the suspect jumped into the car and drove away, despite the efforts
of the car owner to stop them.
The suspect drove a short distance before stopping and
removing the child from the vehicle.
Witnesses say that neighbors spotted the man as he attempted
to get back into the stolen vehicle, at which point he jumped into a waiting
SUV.
That Audi SUV was found abandoned on the side of the road in
New Jersey, where it had been reported stolen several days ago.
Anyone with information on the incident, or the suspects
involved, is being asked to contact the Eastchester police department.
