People are putting on their sneakers and running across the country in support of our first responders.
There are teams on standby from Boston to Santa Monica, waiting for the baton to be passed to them as one-by-one they run several miles from coast to coast.
Vince Varallo, the creator of the Great American Relay, says this is to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and to raise money to support our active first responders and the families some left behind.
"These guys are putting their lives on the line for us every day and it's letting us enjoy doing these silly runs across the country and I just want to say thanks. Let them know that people do care," says Varallo.
The race made a stop in Larchmont Monday afternoon. The 9.5-mile run started at the Larchmont Fire Department and ended at the FDNY Engine 52, Ladder 52. The was dedicated to the fallen soldiers in Afghanistan.
