On Wednesday afternoon, four masked men wearing black clothing and hoods, used sledgehammers to break through the glass window of SD Jewelry on Madison Avenue.

Surveillance shows them pushing past the mother and daughter that own the shop and then proceed to steal jewelry from the main case in the lobby.

The owners would eventually attempt to stop or even slow down the thieves from getting into the getaway car in hope that police would arrive, but the two women were tossed aside.

A close friend of the family says she is disappointed police could not help considering that just a few doors down there is a police substation.

“We are in downtown Perth Amboy where we are supposed to have all these cops around and supposed to have security but unfortunately they didn’t come in time," said Perla Ceballos.

While the men were masked, surveillance video clearly shows the getaway car was a grey and black BMW SUV with Illinois license plates.

Police in Perth Amboy say that officers did pursue the thieves out of town, but no arrests have been made.
