Health officials are issuing warnings about an increase in dengue fever cases across the Hudson Valley.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the mosquito-borne illness has already affected over 74 individuals in New York, with approximately 10 cases reported in the Hudson Valley region.
Recognizing symptoms can be challenging as they may mimic other illnesses. Common indicators include fever, nausea, vomiting, rash, and body aches, particularly around the eyes, muscles, joints, and bones.
There is no specific treatment for dengue, so prevention through mosquito bite avoidance is crucial. Vaccines are also available for children with confirmed past cases.
Last year, the United States saw over 2,000 cases of dengue fever, more than double the 814 reported in 2021.
