President Joe Biden's series of executive actions to help curb gun violence include taking steps to restrict so-called "ghost guns" built from parts bought online.

Other actions include publishing model "red flag" law for states, in an effort to make it easier for people to stop their family members from buying a firearm if they pose a danger to themselves or others, and reducing access to pistol braces, which help stabilize guns and can make them more lethal.

Despite the federal push for stricter gun laws, New York already has some of the toughest regulations on the books.

Having or selling "ghost guns" is already banned in New York and the state passed its version of the "red flag" law in 2019.

For gun owners in the Hudson Valley many of these proposals won't change how they do business, but banning braces could hurt business.

One gun store owner in Montgomery, Orange County, says the braces are a popular item and he argues it could be worse to use a gun without one. He says since the brace stabilize the firearm, gunfire would not only be inaccurate but dangerous as well.

Gun control advocates continue to rally and call on the Senate to pass a pair of background check bills requiring them on all gun sales and lengthening the review period from three days to three weeks.
