Middletown school officials are investigating an incident in which a student yelled they had a gun while riding on a high school bus on Tuesday.

District officials sent a letter out to families saying the bus driver reported the incident to dispatch and the bus was rerouted back to the high school.

Police were notified and officers had students and bags searched with metal detectors. The bus was also thoroughly searched and no weapons were found.

As expected, the Middletown School District says there is now an investigation underway, with video footage being reviewed and interviews with people on the bus.

Officials want to assure parents that there will be disciplinary action for anyone who made this alarming statement.
