Harriman Police Chief Frank Dailey announced during a public meeting Wednesday that he will not accept the village?s offer to resign.
Dailey, who has been the police chief for 106 days, says he received a letter from Mayor Stephen Welle saying he once observed him driving a police car with a frosted windshield. The mayor also claimed that on another occasion, Dailey failed to follow the law.
?I made a right turn north on 17M, and he observed that I didn't signal with the police vehicle,? Dailey says.
The village board informed Dailey he could leave his post and be paid until the end of November, but Dailey says after 46 years on the force, he not leaving without a fight.
?I've searched my soul, I've prayed to my God and I'm now prepared to defend myself,? Dailey says.
The Harriman police chief wants the village administrators to disclose why they demand his resignation.
In the meantime, Sgt. Ramond Culver will be heading the department while Dailey is on temporary leave.
