A man driving a vehicle Monday afternoon in Haverstraw was struck by gunfire, crashed into a parked vehicle and died at a hospital, Haverstraw police said.
Chief John Gould says officers responded around 4 p.m. to a call about shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found the unnamed victim on the sidewalk near 9 Fairmont Ave. suffering from gunshot wounds.
Gould says this man was treated for his injuries at the scene and was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Details surrounding the ongoing investigation were not immediately available. Gould said the incident was not prompted by road rage.
A man who lives on Fairmont Avenue says he saw some of the incident play out, including hearing shots, watching cars speeding down the street and the crash.
He says it motivated his daughter to check things out.
"I didn't touch the car, I saw him slumped so I didn't try to do anything," she says.
