Police arrested eight suspects and seized narcotics and weapons from a Haverstraw home during a Tuesday night drug raid.Authorities say they confiscated four loaded guns and 20 ounces of marijuana from the South Street house.

?We cannot overestimate the importance of that seizure today that could save lives in the long run,? says Rockland District Attorney Tom Zugibe.

More than a week before the bust, Haverstraw police received several complaints about shots being fired on South Street. These reports led detectives to obtain a warrant and raid the home.

?Our department sent a message to the entire community: ?If you?re coming to Haverstraw to do something illegal, you will be arrested and you will go to jail,?? says Haverstraw Town Supervisor Howard Phillip.

When police entered the one-family home, they discovered that at least 20 people lived there. The owners of the residence, who live in Piermont, are now facing violations by the village building inspector.

The suspects who were taken into custody during the raid are facing weapons possession and drug charges.
