Sgt. Eric Hernandez, 26, and two other soldiers were killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq this week. Hernandez was born in Newburgh, but was raised in Bergen County, New Jersey. His father, Craig Hernandez, lives in a condominium complex in Garnerville.
Haverstraw Supervisor Howard Philips says the town will remember and honor Hernandez?s sacrifice next week. ?The town will put up American flags along the Route 202 corridor in respect and in acknowledging his sacrifice and service to our country,? said Philips.
Residents in Haverstraw are also being asked to fly their American flags to honor Sgt. Hernandez. Hernandez is the fifth soldier with ties to Rockland to die in Iraq.
