Mount St. Michael Academy is recovering from a disappointingly close hoops loss to Bronx rival Cardinal Hayes High School.
At the end of the first half, Mount's Willy Williams battled the buzzer to put the ball in the net from down court, but the referee ruled it no good. Hayes held on to its 29-26 lead.
With less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter, Williams stole the ball for a two-point layup, putting Mount up 55-52.
Hayes would not go quietly. Chris Craig passed the ball to teammate Kelvin Gill, who made a three-pointer to tie the game at 55-55.
Hayes took the lead again, up 61-57, and eventually pulled out a nail-biting 62-61 victory.
