Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
Two individuals are recovering after being rescued from an overturned car in Purchase. The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. on Sunday on I-287. First responders from Purchase, Port Chester, and Harrison had to remove the roof of the car to access those inside. Both victims were subsequently transported to the hospital. Their current conditions and the circumstances leading to the crash are under investigation.
In Orange County, a corrections officer, Gioron Wilkins, is facing charges for allegedly promoting prison contraband. The county's sheriff's office reports that Wilkins is accused of smuggling tobacco products into the facility with the intent to provide them to incarcerated individuals. He is also alleged to have possessed an unauthorized cellphone within a secure area of the facility. Wilkins has been placed on administrative leave and issued a court appearance ticket.
Two individuals who were drifting on the Hudson River are safe thanks to a Metro-North commuter who spotted them. Police received a call from a passenger who reported a small vessel capsized in the water. The Irvington Police Department and Westchester Marine Unit were able to locate the pair and bring them aboard the rescue boat. The individuals had been adrift for approximately 90 minutes.
