A Kent woman has been arrested for allegedly neglecting a dog. The Putnam County SPCA says they found an emaciated 8-year-old Catahoula Leopard mix dog named Abby. The dog, weighing just 21 pounds, was immediately taken to a veterinarian. A healthy dog of this breed should weigh 40 to 50 pounds, according to the vet. Abby's owner, Shannon McMahon, was arrested. She will be arraigned on July 11 and could face up to a year in jail.
Timothy Lempicki was sentenced to six years in prison for his role in a fatal fentanyl overdose. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter and criminal sale of a controlled substance. According to the Orange County District Attorney, Lempicki admitted to selling fentanyl to a man who fatally overdosed in 2022, while knowing the drug might have a lethal effect.
A Port Jervis man has admitted to trying to rape a child. Orange county officials say James Pospisil just pleaded guilty to attempting to have sex with a child under 11-years-old. Officials say his recommended sentence will be 15 years in prison followed by 15 years of post-release supervision. Pospisil will also be a registered sex offender. He's expected to be sentenced on September 17.
