A Yonkers man faces federal charges stemming from a plot to assassinate an Iranian dissident. Khalid Mehdiyev, 29, faces charges including murder for hire, conspiracy to commit money laundering and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number. He was arrested last July outside the Brooklyn home of the apparent target -- an Iranian dissident journalist. At that time, authorities say he was in possession of a Chinese-made AK-47-style assault rifle.

Westchester County police are asking the public to help them find the driver behind a hit-and-run in Mount Kisco. Investigators say a car struck and seriously injured a man walking Monday around 6 p.m. at Main and Boltis streets. According to police, it was a dark-colored SUV involved in the incident. Police say the 53-year-old is still at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. They are asking anyone with information to contact Officer Edwin Ramirez at 914-864-7008. A pit bull is undergoing emergency surgery after allegedly being shot by an Orange County sheriff's deputy in Monroe. A GoFundMe page for the dog's owner says the dog was shot twice in the face and once in the neck. A family representative tells News 12 the dog, Emmalena, was outside of a home on Oakwood Trail when the deputy arrived to serve legal papers to someone who moved six years ago. News 12 has reached out to the Sheriff's Office twice for comment but has not heard back.
