Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
Michael Vives, a New York State Corrections officer, is facing charges for allegedly waving a gun at several businesses in Mahopac. Police apprehended him near Kobu Restaurant on Lake Boulevard, where he was found with a loaded pistol. Following an argument, Vives reportedly entered other businesses along Route 6-N while still displaying the firearm.
Shane Burr, an Ulster County man, is accused of burglarizing the Asian Garden Restaurant on Main Street in Highland. Police apprehended Burr while he was in the act of stealing cash from inside the establishment. Burr, who was already on probation, is currently held in Ulster County Jail on $50,000 cash bail. He is due back in court Thursday.
Early Monday morning, two popular businesses in the Fleetwood section of Mount Vernon were targeted by burglars. Joe's Fleetwood Pizzeria on West Broad Street had its front door window smashed, resulting in a loss of $500 from the register. Similarly, Grand Food Market on a nearby block had its front door shattered. The burglars took the register with $300 inside and attempted to steal the ATM. It remains unclear if these burglaries are related.
