Here are some stories making headlines across the Hudson Valley.
Emmanuel Valentin Perez, a resident of Mount Vernon, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and assault charges in connection with the June 2021 shooting death of Manuel Salazar, a Sleepy Hollow resident. The shooting occurred during an altercation in Margotta Courts Park. Another individual sustained a gunshot wound during the incident. Perez is expected to be sentenced on both charges in October.
Bedford police are actively searching for a suspect involved in a gas station burglary. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. at the Shell gas station on South Bedford Road. The suspect used a rock to break a window and made off with scratch-off lottery tickets, e-cigarettes, and lighters. Authorities are working to determine if more than one person was involved in the burglary.
Two Mount Vernon police officers are being praised for their quick actions in saving a pedestrian's life. The man had been hit by a vehicle at the corner of Union Avenue and East Third Street. The officers promptly applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding and continued life-saving measures until the victim was transported to Jacobi Medical Center.
